Gaining Our Charity No.1042017

Brian, Louise, Roy, the Well’s Family and more joined forces to create the original chairty of ‘Jimmy’s Association For kidney Children’  (JAKC) based from St Jame’s (Jimmy’s) Hospital in Leeds. Within their first 10 years they had fund raised and donated £300,000.  Over its tenure, JAKC exceeded any expectations and purchased medical equipment and more to advance the care and research for those treated at Jimmy’s and beyond. The driving force then focused on finding a cure for Cystanosis, a rare genetic disorder that most commonly effects the kidneys.

JAKC Became My Chance

After noticing the same ethos embodied in a young Fraya’s charitable acts, Brian Long and the committee members of JAKC, brought Fraya onboard to bring fresh energy and determination to their fundraising efforts! It was time for a new era of the chairty, to do more for more people in the Seby district and further afield within Yorkshire. With the continued support of the team, Fraya went on to take responsibility and the chairty evolved into ‘My Chance’  out of the love and memory of all that JAKC stood for!

OUR MESSAGE

My Chance aims to provide aid to everyone and anyone who is in need of help. We strive to be an all inclusive charity to support those from newborn babies to elderly. From poor physical health to mental health. Whatever support you need we care!

The team at My Chance perform acts of kindness to raise funds to give well deserving causes, be an individual, community, hospital or small charity in need, vital support or medical equipment.

My Chance fought to be a non-specific charity, as we believe that no illness of any kind is more important or deserving than another, as they all have an effect on those involved.

How does our charity work?

My Chance is dedicated to inspiring fundraisers and creating awareness around illnesses effecting people and their loved ones. We aim to provide aid to everyone and anyone who is in need of help, however we can. We strive to be an all inclusive charity to support those from newborn babies to elderly. From poor physical health to ill mental health.

My Chance is a complete non-profit organisation created and ran by family and friends who volunteer their time, experience and passion to help others.

Types Of Support We’ve Provided

Activities

Either on foot from 5K fun runs to marathons, by wheels like a 26 mile bike ride, or by sponsored swims. We've done it all, from those of us that are athletic fanatics or armatures wanting a challenge we rose to the occasion!

 Appeals

Giving respect and company to our senior generation that paved the way, we can often be the only friendly face delivering their only presents at Christmas time.

 Visits & Excursions

Many families spend special occasions stuck in hospital. To help escape from this, we arrange visists at Easter with treats, and pantomime excursions at Christmas with accessibility for their medical equipment is needed.

Challenges

Making the impossible possible, we strive to push the boundaries of fundraising activities by attempting extrravengant and maddening challenges to gain more support and awareness then ever!

 Requests

Many times each person in need has a specific, intimate situation that they wouldn't have the courage to ask for help. To overcome this stigma, we welcome members of the public to get in contact and tell us about a special someone in their community or family that deserves recognition or would benefit from support. Though we may not be able to perform all requests we will try our hardest to help wherever possible.

Events

Annual black tie balls where we not only do provide tickets to thank our champion fundraisers of the year, but offer tickets to the community to have a night of luxury and entertainment to celebrate the fundraising achieved, whilst fundraising still through ticket sale and prizes!

 Auctions

Sometimes the generous community donate physical items, wether second hand or brand new, we use our online site to offer a bargain marketplace for the public where all proceeds go directly supporting those in need.

Do you know someone who is a champion fundraiser in our community?

The Long Legacy Award

Named after Brian Long, a pillar in our community, The Long Legacy Award was created to continue his impact and dedication to the people of Yorkshire.

Throughout the many years of volunteering, Brian speared campaigns and charitable acts to raise vital funds for children suffering with kidney disease in and around the Leeds area, under ‘Jimmy’s Association For Kidney Children’.  Brian brought families together, and was never paid, or rewarded for his efforts, but just wanted to make a difference. It is with this in mind we have set up the Long Legacy Award.

So please get in contact and nominate that special person you know who deserves a big thank you, who goes above and beyond to make a difference. In addition to being awarded, the winner will receive £1000 to go to their chosen cause to support all their fundraising efforts! The winner will also be given tickets to our Annual Ball, to receive this award and donation!
